About
In 2018, the Civil Society Enablement (CSEU) program was launched within the “Basmeh & Zeitooneh” organization, founded in 2012 by a group of activists to support Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Since then, the program has evolved into a specialized unit dedicated to civil society enablement. This evolution stems from our deep belief in the pivotal role of civil society in advancing communities across social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental fields, based on strong foundations such as freedom, democracy, and pluralism. From the early days of establishing the Unit, we have continued to develop our work and actively engage with other civil society organizations, grounded in our core values of human rights, non-violence, citizenship, and gender justice. The Civil Society Enablement Unit focuses on people as "sustainable capital," placing humans at the heart of all our activities and strategies. The Unit was established to strengthen civil society capacities and support the civil space. It seeks to achieve societal impact that contributes to building a civil system based on partnership, participation, and solidarity, ensuring human dignity and rights. The Enablement Unit commits to a sustainable approach for capacity development, supported by innovation and advancement to create and mobilize resources, transforming acquired experiences into accessible and non-exclusive knowledge and skills, enhancing the ability of all civil society actors to achieve positive change.
